HTC recently released the results of its Q3 2014 financials and the findings are interesting to say the least. First of all, the Taiwan-based phone maker was able to produce a profit in the amount of $21 million. This figure was taken from the total third quarter sales revenue amounting to $1.37 billion (unaudited).
Despite generating profits during the third quarter, things are not looking so rosy for the Taiwanese mobile manufacturing company. The results showed a decline of 8 percent in the sales revenue for HTC in the month of September. Back in July, the company had suffered a whopping 33 percent decrease in on-year revenue. HTC was able to bounce back in August wherein it registered a 10 percent growth in sales. But in the following month of September, the phone maker took an 8 percent slide, its sales revenue falling from $598 million to $549 million. As for the whole third quarter sales unaudited revenue of $1.37 billion, it is actually down 11 percent this year.
Still, the fact that HTC was able to get a $21 million profit is something to be celebrated. Despite the decrease in sales, the company was able to generate a positive bottom line. Credit this to the cost-cutting measures that HTC has been implementing throughout the third quarter.
But overall, HTC's third quarter could have been much, much worse. Although its sales figures are not as good compared to Q2 2014, the company performed much better that it did in last year's third quarter. And considering that the third quarter had been a particularly busy quarter in terms of numerous smartphone releases by competitors here and there (most notably, the launch of the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus), it is quite understandable that the company's main offering, the HTC One (M8), would take a bit of a hit in terms of sales.
No doubt, HTC is looking to bounce back and re-invigorate its sliding revenue figures. The phone maker will be hosting a press conference in New York City next week, and it is likely that the company will be introducing a new device. There are rumors that the device to be unveiled will be a high-end phablet/large smartphone that sports a generous 2000 resolution display screen along with quality specifications. Whatever the new device will be, it is imperative that HTC deliver on the goods as well as generate lots of consumer interest if it is to improve its current sales performance.
