HTC announced today that it will be releasing an entry-level Android device with the company's Sense user interface. Breaking its usual mold with the launch of the Tattoo, the experienced Android handset manufacturer will target smartphone users seeking an affordable Android-based device.
The HTC Tattoo will sport a more cost-conscious 2.8-inch resistive touch screen instead of the capacitive touch screen found on the rest of HTC's Android lineup. The handset will also feature a 3.2-megapixel camera, 3.5mm headphone jack, FM radio, WiFi, GPS, and Stereo Bluetooth.
The Sense UI, first available on the now Sprint-bound HTC Hero, offers a sleek interface with a number of advanced options including a customizable home screen and widgets. Sticking with HTC's recent emphasis on personalization, the Tattoo will live up to its name, allowing users to design custom shells to change the appearance of their phones.
While official pricing has not yet been set for the Tattoo, the phone is expected to be offered for free by European carriers with a two year contract. There's no word on when the handset may be available in the U.S., but is scheduled to hit additional markets in the coming months.
