According to a report recently published by The Information, Huawei is said to be planning to formally launch its flagship phablet offering, the Mate 10, in the United States mobile market less than a couple of months from now through AT&T. If this report turns out to be true, then the debut of the Mate 10 on the second biggest wireless network in America would mark the first time the Chinese phone maker has ever pushed one of its mobile devices through one of the Big Four carriers in the country (the other three being Verizon Wireless, T-Mobile, and Sprint).
As indicated in The Information’s report, the upcoming US version of Huawei’s Mate 10 phablet will likely go through some technical adjustments in order to meet certain American standards. Many are speculating that the adjustments will likely revolve around creating network frequency support for American buyers of the handset.
More than a week ago, it was reported that Chinese tech giants Huawei and Xiaomi were planning to bring their respective flagship devices to American shores some time in 2018. Both brands happen to be two of the biggest Chinese mobile manufacturers in the world, but despite having achieved considerable success in their native homeland China, and other mobile markets, they have yet to establish a solid presence in the US, or a big enough market share to challenge industry leaders Samsung and Apple.
The dominance of Samsung and Apple was made possible by the two companies’ long term partnership with basically all of the national wireless service providers in America. This meant that year in and year out, they would be able to push their most high profile smartphone releases through the four biggest mobile operators in the country.
It goes without saying that Chinese brands would want to enjoy that kind of partnership, too. For Huawei, it would be a major step in the right direction. But quite obviously, it will not be a walk in the park. First of all, AT&T might be the number two leading carrier in the US, but it is still just one carrier. To Huawei’s credit, it appears to be planning its next steps carefully. Its US staff is said to be in the process of studying the shopping habits of American consumers in order to get a better grasp of how it will be marketing its devices. And Huawei is reported to be willing to spend some money in order to make enough noise to get people to notice. Is 2018 gonna be Huawei’s breakthrough year in America? Let’s wait and see.
