Unbeknownst to many, LG was Google's main partner in developing the hardware components of the first Android Wear smartwatch a year ago. And now the South Korean is setting its sights on another endeavor: producing a smartwatch that actually looks fashionable and classy.
Just recently, LG previewed its newest smartwatch offering, the LG Watch Urbane. This latest wearable device is built with all the functionalities of a smartwatch, but its looks exude a more classic, analog feel.
The LG Watch Urbane is expected to be officially introduced at the Mobile World Congress happening next month in March. LG is positioning the wearable device as an all-metal, all-luxury smartwatch that despite its classical appearance, actually has some pretty impressive features.
LG's latest smartwatch uses the same display screen technology used in the LG G Watch R, one of the most prominent Android Wear watches available in stores out there. Like the G Watch R, the Watch Urbane sports the same 1.3-inch circular plastic OLED display screen that the G Watch R has. With regards to the other parts, the newest LG smartwatch basically houses the same processor, sensor, and battery components as its older sibling.
But when it comes to design, the LG Watch Urbane really distinguishes itself. This smartwatch comes with an elegant yet modernized steel body that is not only slimmer, but also comes finished with gold or silver. Completing the package is a leather strap, which either comes in black or brown color. Furthermore, any 22-millimeter watch band can used with the LG Watch Urbane.
Smartwatch enthusiasts may claim that the Moto 360 was the first Android Wear watch that looked like a normal modern timepiece. But many a pedant may argue that as classy as the Moto 360's looks are, you can still find some hints that the device is digital. For instance, there is a small part of the screen that does not display anything at all.
But with the LG Watch Urbane, it may be more difficult to tell at first glance that it is a smartwatch. For some consumers, this could make a lot of difference when they are trying to decide whether to buy a smartwatch or not. Truth be told, most people are still not used to the idea of having a mini-smartphone attached around their wrists. Yes, they would like to own a smartwatch, but many prefer one that looks like a traditional wristwatch.
