Back in January early this year, specifically during the 2018 edition of the annual Consumer Electronics Show (CES) tech show, Sony had taken the opportunity to unleash a trio of new Android powered mobile devices. Two of them -- the Xperia XA2 and the Xperia XA2 Ultra -- were additions to the Japanese tech giant’s growing family of Xperia XA models.
Fast forwarding to six months later, Sony is now formally announcing a newer Xperia XA model. Meet the Xperia XA2 Plus -- a phablet that boasts a generous 6 inch display screen (which is bigger than the earlier Xperia XA2 model, but about the same as the Xperia XA2 Ultra), as well as an aspect ratio of 18 to 9. Because it makes full use of slimmer bezels, the Xperia XA2 Plus does look more sleek and stylish, even inviting comparisons in terms of looks to other recent more high profile smartphone releases, such as the Google Pixel 2 XL or even Samsung’s Galaxy S9.
Physical design notwithstanding, Sony’s new Xperia XA2 Plus also happens to sport the the Japanese mobile manufacturer’s own High Resolution Audio technology. This piece of tech is supposed to generate a more clear audio output, regardless of whether the user is armed with headphones or not.
The Xperia XA2 Plus also features Sony’s Digital Sound Enhancement Engine, which offers the ability to upscale the user’s MP3 tracks and compressed sound files to near high res audio quality. Not only does this functionality bring more vividness to original recordings, it also expands the sonic atmospheres of live concert performances.
Wait -- we have not tackled the basic specifications yet. So here goes -- the Sony Xperia XA2 Plus phablet is equipped with a 6 inch Full HD+ display (with a 1,080 pixel resolution, plus Image Enhance Tech). This screen is complemented with an epic 23 megapixel main camera on the rear side, and an 8 megapixel selfie shooter on the front side.
As far as hardware specs go, the Xperia XA2 Plus packs Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 630 mobile platform, further aided by at least 4 gigabytes of random access memory (RAM) as well as 32 gigabytes of built in storage, which can be expanded up to 400 gigabytes by way of a micro SD card slot. The smartphone is also armed with a 3,580 mAh battery, and is powered by Google’s Android Oreo mobile operating system.
