Interested in purchasing Apple’s latest tablet offering, the 9.7 inch iPad Pro? For those who do, they might be delighted to know that they now have the option of getting a subscription to Microsoft’s Office 365 suite while they are at it. Indeed, during the ordering process, interested buyers are free to add any one of the three editions of the Microsoft suite -- either the Personal edition that costs $70 a year, the Home edition which goes for $100 a year, or the University edition which fetches $80 for four years.
For those who are not familiar with Microsoft’s Office 365 suite, know that all three editions already come with Microsoft mobile apps such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, OneNote, Outlook, and Publisher. As for the three different editions, note that the Personal edition is designed for individual mobile users, while the Home edition allows a maximum of five mobile users. As for the University edition, it is licensed for up to a couple of mobile users.
Some may be wondering why Apple has decided to throw in an Office 365 subscription together with its newest tablet device. After all, doesn’t Apple have its own iWork productivity suite? It may have something to do with the iPhone maker’s desire to establish the 9.7 inch iPad Pro as a replacement for Windows PCs. Offering its latest tablet with Office 365 will certainly attract the attention of existing Windows and Office users who might have hesitated to get an Apple tablet because they can not readily use mobile apps such as Word or Excel. And also, it could not hurt if it will help Apple rejuvenate its ailing tablet sales. Phil Schiller, the senior vice president of worldwide marketing at Apple, certainly echoed this during the company’s recent March 21 event, saying that Apple has already sold more than 200 million iPad tablets devices with a 9.7 inch display screen, and is targeting a second segment of users for its newest iPad Pro -- Windows mobile users.
Interestingly, the 9.7 inch iPad Pro is not the only Apple tablet with an option to include an Office 365 suite subscription. As a matter of fact, other tablets such as the iPad Air 2, the iPad Mini 4, and the iPad Mini 2 also come with Office 365 offers, albeit only for the Personal and Home editions. As for last year’s 12.9 inch iPad Pro, it includes the option to add all three editions of the Office 365 suite.
