Apple recently announced that it has sold more than 10 million units of the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus phones in just three days after their September 19 launch. By topping 10 million units, Apple has set a new record for first weekend sales for any smartphone.
So far, the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus are available in the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Australia. The new iPhone models are expected to made available in 20 more countries by September 26th of this year. Before the end of the year, Apple is targeting to hit 115 countries.
The phenomenal sales performance of Apple's new flagship phones is hardly surprising. Both the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus have been hyped as far more improved versions of their predecessors. Indeed, the larger screens of the latest iPhone iterations, measuring 4.4 inches and 5.5 inches respectively, are significant upgrades of previous versions. Furthermore, the A8 chip used in both new iPhones promises better performance and power efficiency. And when you factor in other new features like the iSight and FaceTime HD cameras, super-fast wireless technology, and Apple Pay (mobile payments with the touch of your finger), users definitely get a new level of experience with the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus.
It also does not hurt that the new iPhones run on iOS 8, the newest version of Apple's mobile operating system. The latest iOS provides an easier, faster, more intuitive usability. Plus it has new Messages and Photos features that should please users. Other features include the QuickType keyboard (for predictive typing), Family Sharing, iCloud Drive (for storing files anytime, anywhere), and a new Health app that lets users collate data related to their health and fitness.
The iPhone 6 is available in gold, silver, and space gray colors. Buyers can get it for a retail price of $199.99 for the 16-gigabyte model, $299.99 for the 64-gigabyte model, and $399.99 for the 128-gigabyte model; any of the three coming with a two-year agreement. As for the iPhone 6 Plus, is available in similar color options and costs $299.99 for the 16-gigabyte model, $399.99 for the 64-gigabyte model, and $499.99 for the 128-gigabyte model; again, any of the three with a two-year contract. The phones can be purchased from the Apple Online Store, Apple retail stores, and via Verizon Wireless, Sprint, AT&T, T-Mobile, and other carriers. Authorized resellers include Walmart, Best Buy, Radio Shack, and Target.
