As quoted by Taiwan’s Economic Daily Times, Barron’s Asia has reported that Apple has requested its suppliers to produce between 72 million to 78 million units of new iPhone devices before the end of this year, perhaps in anticipation of healthy sales for the upcoming iPhone 7, which is expected to unveiled later this year. Meanwhile, new allegedly leaked images for the iPhone 7 seem to suggest some new, and rather curious, tweaks to the soon to be revealed flagship device from Apple.
Wall Street had initially projected Apple production levels to reach 65 million units for this year. But if the rumors are all true, the 72 million to 78 million units to be produced will be the highest ever for iPhone devices since a couple of years ago. The flagship devices released last year, the iPhone 6s and the iPhone 6s Plus, were pretty impressive iPhone models. But as remarkable as they are, it appears that they did not do enough to persuade iOS mobile users to upgrade, causing Apple to post its first ever decrease in iPhone sales. To recover, Apple needs its upcoming iPhone 7 devices to be a hit, and they will need to wow users anew.
Despite Apple’s current sales woes, there is still a lot of excitement for the new iPhone devices. Week after week, we have all witnessed rumors after another, speculating on the features of the new flagship devices. Among the rumored features were dual speakers, glass casings, rear side camera flush with the device’s surface, and even dual cameras (but only on the iPhone 7 Plus). Still, many industry watchers are thinking that despite new features, iPhone fatigue may still prove hard to beat. But Apple is never one to be underestimated.
According to leaked images posted by French tech website Nowhereelse, the chassis for the 4.7 inch iPhone 7 variant appear to feature an extra pair of speaker grilles along the top of the device. Moreover, the camera hole seems bigger than usual. Based on these pictures, some iOS die hard fans may think that the design is closer to that of iPad devices, with pairs of speakers at the top and bottom of the handset.
Previous leaks have suggested the iPhone 7 to look more like the iPhone 6, and rumors abound that new features will include a lightning port supplanting the 3.5 millimeter headphone jack, and a bigger camera lens.
