Just this week, Venture Beat has acquired a copy of a promotional material for Motorola’s upcoming new smartphone, the Moto G5S Plus. Based on the information found on the material, it appears that the device comes with new upgrades not found in the Moto G5 and the Moto G5 Plus, both of which debuted more than four months ago. To begin with, it seems that the Moto G5s Plus features a frame made of anodized aluminum. This would clearly be a departure from the mostly plastic frame molded to a slim metal sheet rear cover found on the Moto G5 and the Moto G5 Plus. Moreover, the Moto G5S Plus’ display screen size has been increased to 5.5 inches.
The other major upgrade is with regards to the camera specifications. Whereas the Moto G5 and the Moto G5 Plus have lone main cameras on their rear side, the Moto G5S Plus is said to pack a dual rear camera set up, consisting of a couple of 13 megapixel sensors for both color and black and white image capturing. As for the upcoming device’s front side camera, it is reportedly being upgraded to an 8 megapixel selfie shooter, which is better than the 5 megapixel camera sported by the Moto G5 and the Moto G5 Plus.
The release of the Moto G5S Plus may come as a surprise to some, especially considering that the Moto G5 and the Moto G5 Plus have just been introduced less than six months ago. But this year looks to be an ultra competitive year in mobile, and if Motorola wants to be more aggressive in its Moto G line, then it has every right to do so.
Motorola has already sent out press invitations for an event scheduled this coming July 25th (more on this later), and many are expecting that the Moto G5S Plus will be officially unveiled on that date. And it may not be the only device that gets formally introduced more than a couple of weeks from now. It is quite possible that the Moto X4 and the Moto Z2 Force will also be showcased as well.
Now with regards to the July 25th event, its press invitation was in the form of an animated GIF image that displays the text “You won’t want to miss this” as well as the hashtag #hellomotoworld. As mentioned earlier, some devices will likely be unveiled during this event. The possible suspects include the Moto X4, which could become the first ever smartphone not made by Google to be compatible with the search giant’s Google Fi wireless service. Speculation suggests that the handset will feature a Snapdragon 660 chip set, with 4 gigabytes of random access memory (RAM), 64 gigabytes of built in memory, a fingerprint scanner, and a 3,800 mAh battery. Or, the Moto Z2 Force could make its debut on July 25th. According to rumors, it will feature a 5.5 inch display screen, a Snapdragon 835 processor, and a headphone jack (yey!).
