Yup, it is true that Samsung launched a special coral blue edition of its current flagship device, the Galaxy S8, a few days ago. But there is speculation recently that the South Korean phone maker might also be planning to debut a deep blue version for its upcoming Galaxy Note 8. Roland Quandt, the editor for WinFuture and noted leaker, certainly thinks so -- during the weekend, he tweeted that the latest addition to Samsung’s Galaxy Note lineup of phablet devices will be made available in color options of black, orchid grey, and a new deep blue.
Of course, the world’s biggest seller of smartphone devices is no stranger to releasing limited colors for its high profile devices. The Galaxy Note 8’s predecessor, last year’s infamous Galaxy Note 7, actually had a coral blue edition, but the phablet never really took off with the masses due to unfortunate battery related issues that led to a couple of recalls and a complete discontinuation altogether.
It also bears noting that past flagship launches also came in colors beyond the usual options. 2015’s Galaxy S6, for instance, came with a blue topaz version. Then came a coral blue version of the Galaxy S7 Edge, as well as this year’s Galaxy S8, as mentioned earlier.
Galaxy Note 8 rumors aside, renders of the rumored Galaxy S8 Active has recently been leaked on the interwebs, specifically on Reddit (and then picked up by Android Police). Every now and then, Samsung releases an Active variant for its flagship offerings, and the idea of the Active series is to provide a more rugged version of the company’s Galaxy line. In the Galaxy S8 Active’s case, it is said to come with a tougher screen (not curved, because a flat display would be able to take a lot more stress), a bulkier build, and a more powerful 4,000 mAh battery (same as last year’s Galaxy S7 Active).
It was more than a month ago when documents were reported to have appeared on Samsung’s official website, mentioning the Galaxy S8 Active device. Rumors of the handset’s existence have surfaced as early as April of this year, with reports indicating that a Galaxy S8 Active was indeed going to be released as an exclusive from major US wireless carrier AT&T some time this year. With regards to the exclusiveness, it is no guarantee yet, which means that if the Galaxy S8 Active does get released soon, subscribers of other mobile operators might be able to get their hands on the handset.
