As rumors swirl around Apple’s plans of a March launch for a new 4 inch iPhone device, excitement increases for Samsung’s own upcoming flagship device, the Galaxy S7, expected to be officially announced during Mobile World Congress happening next month in the beautify city of Barcelona in Spain. Even more so now that the benchmark scores for the South Korean phone maker’s newest Galaxy device have surfaced in the interwebs.
A Hungarian blog on Android mobile devices had picked up on the leaks. Based on the leaked benchmark scores, how does the Galaxy S7 fare against last year’s Galaxy S6? Samsung’s 2015 Galaxy S6 managed to garner a Geekbench score ranging from 1250 to 1450, while the multicore variant scored between 4200 to 4800. As for the upcoming Galaxy S7 smartphone, the leaked Geekbench scores has the device at 1873 (single core) and at 5946 (multicore). Looking at those numbers, fans of Galaxy devices can indeed expect some significant improvement in terms of performance for the newest flagship device from Samsung.
To be fair, not many agree that benchmark scores are the most definite method for evaluating a particular smartphone’s performance. And it should be noted that Samsung has already been charged with manipulating benchmark scores for its flagship devices by optimizing performance on known software used for benchmark scoring. So while the benchmark scores detailed in the preceding paragraph are quite lovely, it may be wise to take them with a grain of salt.
One other bit of information that can be harvested from the leak is that Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S7 device will be powered by version Android 6.0.1 of Google’s mobile operating system. Moreover, the handset is said to feature an octa core processor, most likely the South Korean mobile giant’s own Exynos chip set, processing at 1.59 GigaHertz. As for the random access memory (RAM), it is said to be at 4 gigabytes.
Previous leaks had given the idea that the Galaxy S7 will feature a pressure sensitive display screen, which should allow Samsung to compete with the 3D Touch technology being utilized by Apple on its iPhone 6s device. Also, a new high speed USB Type C port is also rumored to be featured on the Galaxy S7.
It is no secret that Samsung is working on bouncing back from a rather disappointing 2015, in terms of smartphone shipments, global market share, and profit margins. The company certainly has high hopes that its upcoming Galaxy S7 will help it reverse its fortune in 2016. Based on the leaks, the device should deliver specifications wise, but Samsung is hoping that it would equate to purchases.
