Following in the footsteps of the likes of Apple, BlackBerry, and Palm, LG has launched its very own application store. Currently, the beta version of LG’s application store is only available in Asia, but will soon go live in 24 other countries – the U.S., unfortunately, apparently not yet on the list.
According to a press release released yesterday by the handset manufacturer, the mobile phone app store will offer up to 2,000 applications by year’s end. LG’s move represents a bid to match competitors and add to the functionality of the company’s handsets by offering applications from third party developers.
“As the trend has shown, the appeal of smartphones is in the diversity and usefulness of the applications. Opening our own Application Store will allow us to offer the best content and applications for our devices so that LG phone owners will get the best possible ownership experience.”
LG’s application store can be accessed at http://www.lgapplication.com where applications can be downloaded to a desktop computer. The LG-GM730, also launching today, is currently the only device capable of accessing the store directly, although more of LG’s “feature phones” will be able to access the store in the future.
