LG’s follow up to last year’s generally well received V20 phablet could make its debut in the latter part of next month. The South Korean tech giant has actually started sending out save the date invites for something that will happen on August 31st in the city of Berlin in Germany. Because the invite shows the outline of a backlit letter V, it is a good bet that the event could feature the official unveiling of the upcoming V30 device.
Of course, LG has not confirmed just yet if the new handset will indeed be called the V30. But regardless, the phone maker’s V lineup of phablets have proven to be certified hits and people are no doubt excited about the latest addition to this series. And based on the August 31st date, it would be about safe to assume that the formal introduction will coincide with this year’s IFA show (which stands for Internationale Funkausstellung), which will start on September 1st of this year.
Strictly speaking, the G6 is LG’s flagship offering, while the company’s V brand is sort of its main phablet offering (similar to how Samsung differentiates between its Galaxy S smartphones and Galaxy Note phablets). As a premium lineup of devices, the V smartphones sometimes offer the more interesting features. Past releases such as the V10 and the V20 have certainly boasted the more higher end specifications, and consequently, a higher pricing.
Another thing that makes the existing V phablets unique is their use of a secondary display that is set up just above the main screen. But based on some leaked renders that surfaced as recently as this week, it is quite possible that LG might decide on doing away with the secondary display.
If this turns out to be true, then one can argue that the V30 may be more similar to the G6 than its predecessor, the V20. Apart from potentially getting rid of the secondary display, the leaks also suggest that the V30 could sport ultra thin bezels like those found on the G6. Other notable rumored specs include a dual camera set up on the rear side (which can also be found on the V20), a fingerprint scanner on the rear side, and a USB C port. In terms of size, the V30 might be fitted with a 6 inch display screen. Of course, all of the information above may be nothing more than speculation, but by the end of next month, we should have a pretty good idea of what the V30 phablet will bring to the table.
