While everybody was busy checking out the new iPhone and iPad Pro, new LG related developments were brewing this week. First off, the South Korean tech giant’s Watch Urbane LTE Second Edition wearable device is being brought back by major US wireless carrier AT&T. On top of that, the LG G5, the ultra cool smartphone that LG unveiled several weeks ago, is also coming to the number 2 carrier in America soon. The smartwatch and the LG flagship device have now been made available by AT&T for preordering, and will officially launch in the United States beginning on April 1st of this year (as hinted earlier).
LG’s Watch Urbane LTE Second Edition device has had a sort of rollercoaster ride since it was first introduced by the South Korean mobile manufacturer last year. But just a week after the smartwatch hit store shelves in America, LG decided to stop selling the device, due to an unnamed issue related to hardware. But by February early this year, the company confirmed that it was planning to bring back the Watch Urbane LTE Second Edition in 2016, likely in the second half of the year.
But apparently, LG is bringing back the smartwatch this March, which is earlier than initially expected. However, those interested in buying the wearable device must be warned that getting the smartwatch might be costlier than previously planned. Because the Watch Urbane LTE Second Edition possesses cellular connectivity capabilities, it will need its own SIM card, which means buyers will have to add the device to their data plan. Still, it does offer the advantage of being able to function without having to depend on a smartphone. Using a separate SIM card for the smartwatch also means that buyers can take full advantage of AT&T’s NumberSync feature, which allows people to attach their mobile phone number to another device in order to send and receive voice calls and text messages.
To grab the Watch urbane LTE Second Edition device, mobile users will have to pay an additional hundred bucks on top of the price of the LG G5 smartphone, and they shell out $10 more a month in order to attach the smartwatch to their current data plan. Or, for those who want to purchase it separately, they can opt to pay $18 a month on a 20 month plan, with a final cost of $360 for the smartwatch.
