Rumors have already been brewing regarding the possibility that LG will be introducing its next flagship device, the G6, just in time for this year’s Mobile World Congress, which will be held in the beautiful city of Barcelona in Spain, starting on February 27th until March 2nd. Well, the South Korean phone maker has recently issued a teaser that implies its newest major smartphone offering will be making its debut a day before the 2017 MWC will kick off.
While it is true that the G6 is yet to be officially unveiled, LG has actually revealed a lot about the upcoming flagship. For example, it is almost certain that the G6 will not be going for the modular approach to design, unlike its predecessor, the G5 (which never really sold enough to be considered a hit). Moreover, the South Korean tech giant has also revealed that the soon to be announced device will come with a display screen with an aspect ratio of 18:9, which gives it an advantage over most flagship devices currently out in the market which sport an aspect ratio of 16:9. Other are already speculating that the additional room will probably be taken full advantage of by LG for split display purposes, which can be seen on the company’s flagship phablets (the V10 and last year’s V20).
The latest speculation, courtesy of a report published by Business Korea, indicates that the G6 will be coming with Google Assistant. To date, only Google’s own flagships, the Pixel and the Pixel XL, have the artificial intelligence assistant. If the Business Korea report turns out to be true, then LG would be the first non-Google smartphone brand to use the Google Assistant, even ahead of Samsung’s upcoming flagship device, the Galaxy S8.
Also, if LG also includes Alexa, the digital assistant from Amazon, in the G6, then its device would only be the second smartphone to do so, after Huawei’s Mate 9 phablet. It bears noting that the South Korean mobile manufacturer had on previous occasion included the Alexa assistant on a number of its devices, such as the Instaview refrigerator and the SmarThinQ Hub.
It is also reasonable to expect that aside from unveiling the G6 on February 26th, LG will also take the opportunity to showcase a couple of new smartwatch devices powered by Google’s Android Wear operating system for wearables. The new LG smartwatches are said to be launching a few weeks before the MWC starts.
