The Apple Watch has officially launched, but it may be a bit difficult to acquire it especially if you did not preorder one or reserve a unit to be picked up at an Apple Store nearest to you. But there is hope in the form of luxury boutiques. But you may need to hurry up.
Two weeks ago, Apple starting taking preorders for its first ever wearable device. Buyers can order online and either have their Apple Watch units delivered by mail, or pick them up at an Apple retail store when the device is launched. The company also started to allow interested buyers to try on the device at Apple stores, but sadly for those who want to buy the smartwatch directly from physical outlets, Apple has no plans of stocking enough units for walk-in customers. Those who preordered can expect to receive their orders any day now, while those that did not may have to wait until June this year.
If you are one of those that do not want to order online, but instead just walk in and out of a store already wearing your brand new Apple Watch, your best chance is any of select luxury boutiques around the world that offer the smartwatch. However, you are going to have make a move now because there are only a few of them.
If you live in or around the Los Angeles metropolitan area, you may want to head to Maxfield, which advertised on its website that it will be offering the Apple Watch starting today. The store is offering a limited number of the entry level Apple Watch Sport and the luxury Apple Watch Edition models on a first come first served basis. There is no word on just how many Apple Watches Maxfield are stocking so interested buyers might want to hurry. According to a Maxfield associate, Apple store employees will be present at the store to handle Apple Watch transactions.
Other luxury boutiques around the world that offer the Apple Watch include Colette in Paris, France; The Corner in Berlin, Germany; and Dover Street Market in London, United Kingdom and in Tokyo, Japan. Certain authorized resellers located in China and Japan are also offering the Apple Watch outright without reservations.
Dover Street Market's store in London has a more systematic way of dealing with Apple Watch buyers. It is providing instructions for buyers on its website, specifically urging customers to set an appointment before visiting its store, as well as telling them to bring along their iPhones that has already been updated with iOS 8.2 or newer versions. Moreover, the store is only selling one Apple Watch unit per customer.
