After some teasing from Motorola about a couple of weeks ago, the phone maker has finally and formally unveiled the latest addition to its Moto Z lineup of smartphones -- the Moto Z2 Force. But on top of this new smartphone announcement, an even more intriguing piece of news is the fact that the company appears to be expanding its strategy in selling its newest handset offering.
In past smartphone releases, Motorola has always looked to Verizon Wireless as its main carrier partner in the United States mobile market. But with the introduction of the Moto Z2 Force, the tech giant is also partnering with other mobile operators, most notably T-Mobile and US Cellular, with both carriers also taking the opportunity to introduce the newest Moto Z device.
T-Mobile is certainly making the most of the opportunity -- apart from announcing the Moto Z2 Force, the carrier is also launching a new buy one get one free special offer (after a rebate) for the device (which is made available for $750). As for US Cellular, the fifth biggest mobile operator in the country is offering an Insta Share Projector Moto Mod (a big screen projector), free of charge, on top of the device. This Moto Mod is usually priced at about $300.
The past several years have seen Motorola build a solid partnership with Verizon Wireless, especially with the Verizon Droid series of smartphone devices. So this recent decision to employ a multi-carrier partner approach to selling the Moto Z2 Force is seen by many industry watchers as a rather interesting move by the phone maker. Some analysts contend that if Motorola can pull off its Moto Z2 Force campaign, it could do what LG has practically accomplished in the premium range tier in recent years. But competing against mobile juggernauts such as Samsung and Apple is another story altogether.
According to Motorola, the Moto Z2 Force will be made available unlocked and on all five major carriers in America (namely Verizon Wireless, AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, and US Cellular) beginning on August 10th. The key specifications include:
5.5 inch AMOLED Quad HD display screen, with added protection thanks to Motorola’s Shatter Shield design.
