And the iPhone 7 rumors keep cropping up. Just this week, there were reports that the upcoming iPhone 7 would come with standard 3.5 millimeter EarPods as well as an adapter. Now, more details have surfaced courtesy of Macotakara. The iPhone 7 is said to be fitted with a slightly bigger earpiece, while the ambient light switcher will move to another spot. Currently, the ambient light sensor is on the left side of the earpiece, but will apparently be located on the right side moving forward. The report by Macotakara mentions that orders of display screen protectors have stopped due to the changes, leading several manufacturers and vendors to stop producing and selling such protectors.
Looking at the bigger picture, the changes mentioned above are not that major. But they do have the potential to have an impact, especially on various accessories that will have to undergo a redesign in order to fit the changes. Take full frontal display screen protectors, for instance -- they will have to be redesigned in order to align correctly with the slightly bigger earpiece and relocated ambient light sensor.
The Wall Street Journal reported earlier this week that the upcoming iPhone 7 will not come with major design changes compared to the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6s models. If there are any changes, they will likely be of the subtle kind. The Wall Street Journal posits that if there are any major changes expected, they will come with the release of next year’s iPhone, whose launch would coincide with the 10th anniversary of the first iPhone back in 2007.
Meanwhile, an unconfirmed leak from Weibo (as reported by PocketNow) suggests that the pricing for the iPhone 7 (256 gigabyte edition) will almost stick to the pricing of the current iPhone 6s 128 gigabyte edition (check the price chart here). According to previous rumors, Apple is allegedly planning to replace the 128 gigabyte edition of its iPhone offerings with a 256 gigabyte edition. Other reports indicate that the 16 gigabyte base edition will be eliminated, making way for a new 32 gigabyte base edition supplanting it, with a 256 gigabyte edition as the top storage configuration.
The Weibo leak also suggests that aside from the iPhone 7 and the iPhone 7 Plus, a third one called iPhone 7 Pro will also be released. Reports of three iPhone 7 versions are nothing new, but this may mark the first time that a name has been attached to the third variant.
