Motorola has confirmed that the unlocked United States model of the Moto G smartphone is getting updated to Android 4.4.4. To be specific, the Moto G version being referred to in this report is the XT1032 model, aka the Original Moto G, which is the most widely available 3G-only variant of the device in international markets.
Apart from getting the Android KitKat update, American users can also expect to receive new features, improvements, and of course, bug fixes to their Moto G handsets.
Users of the device who are based in the United Kingdom actually have already gotten their updates last July earlier this year. But it is only at this time that the update is available for Moto G users living across the Atlantic Ocean.
With the release of Android 5.0 Lollipop, Android 4.4.4 KitKat is no longer the newest version of the Android mobile operating system. Still, Moto G users who are eagerly awaiting the software upgrade can expect a few enhancements, particularly in terms of power profile, stability, and framework of their phone OS. Plus, the update comes with bug fixes that should improve their devices' performance.
Aside from the KitKat upgrade itself, there are a few new features that should delight Moto G users in the US. One of them is the camera - pause video recording feature. This incorporates an easy pause/resume functionality on the viewfinder when recording videos using the smartphone.
Another thing that gets an upgrade is the phone dialler. With this latest software update, the Moto G gets a new and more organized layout for its dialler. Graphics and colors are enhanced to facilitate optimum usability and achieve consistency in design.
Lastly, this latest Moto G software upgrade also enables Motorola Alert Application download. The Motorola Alert app sends users periodic alerts of their exact locations to selected contacts. By updating to Android KitKat, Moto G users in the US can now download the app via the Google Play Store.
To install the software update, users should have their smartphones charged at 50 percent at least, and they should be connected to a stable Wi-Fi network.
Those who got a notification alert for the update can just select Download, and then, after the update has finished downloading, select Install now. When the installation is done, the phone should restart automatically.
As for those who did not receive the notification alert for the update, they will need to go to the Settings icon found in the apps menu. From there, they can select About phone > System updates > Download. After the update has downloaded, they can select Install, and then after it has installed, the phone will just restart by itself.
