Several months back, there have been rumors that Motorola has been developing a new version of the Moto G. According to hearsay, the new Moto G (dubbed as Moto G2) supposedly will boast new features and improvements over its predecessor. Chief among these is a bigger 5-inch 720p display screen (with thinner bezels). According, With possible upgrades, the new Moto G could also command a higher price.
Motorola is scheduling an event this coming September 4 in the city of Chicago, and it is widely expected that the Moto G2, among other new Motorola devices, will be launched during the event. But as for now, Motorola enthusiasts will have to make do with the latest leaked photos (courtesy of HelloMotoHK).
The newly leaked images this time show twin cut-outs of the front side of the soon-to-be-unveiled smartphone. The cut-outs could either be for stereo speakers, or they could be for the earpiece and microphone.
We also get a peek of the device's rear side, including the back panels which appear to be interchangeable. If these photos turn out to be legitimate, it might be safe to assume that the Moto G2 will offer about the same customization capabilities as the old (current) Moto G unit, meaning users can easily remove the back covers and replace them with their preferred Motorola Shell design.
The photos also strongly suggest that the smartphone can support two SIM cards, and even has microSD storage. Sources have also hinted about upgrades in the specifications, namely the incorporation of a 8-megapixel main camera into the smartphone. However, there is no advance notice regarding the price of the Moto G2, which means those who are itching to get their hands on the phone will have to wait a little longer, perhaps until September 4, for any detailed information about pricing.
Other rumored specifications for the latest version of the Moto G smartphone also include a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor, 1 gigabyte of random access memory (RAM), and internal storage of up to 16 gigabytes.
There has been some fair excitement over Motorola's new products this year. After all, the phone maker is expected to introduce up to 8 new Android smartphones in 2014. Included among this batch of new releases of course are affordable units like the Moto G2, as well as more fancy models like the Moto X+1 and the Nexus X -- both flagships of Motorola. The release of Moto X+1 for one is highly-anticipated, and rumors and leaks associated with this particular device have cropped over the last few weeks.
Come September 4 in Chicago though, the public will finally know for sure which new Motorola product will be hitting store shelves very soon. Learn more about other Motorola handsets by comparing Motorola phones and plans here.
