The new Moto X is meant to compete with Apple's iPhone 6 and Samsung's Galaxy S5. Thus, one would think that this Motorola flagship device would be made available by all major carriers. However, it seems that there is at least one carrier that will not be selling the smartphone (which started accepting preorders days ago).
As stated in Motorola's official Twitter account, it looks like the Moto X will not be available on the Sprint network. This news would surely disappoint the carrier's customers who were hoping to get the new Motorola device under a Sprint plan.
It also comes as a surprise for most considering that Sprint has always had a nice track record of offering the latest and most popular devices to its customers. As of this writing, the carrier currently sells the Samsung Galaxy S5, the HTC One (M8), and the LG G3. The carrier even launched a special $50.00 monthly unlimited plan for the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus. It was almost a given that Sprint would naturally include the new Moto X in its store shelves.
This latest development is doubly surprising considering the fact that last year's Moto X was available in Sprint. And with all the reports circulating that Sprint has been struggling recently, it makes no sense whatsoever why it is not selling the latest Moto X phone, which as a flagship handset should be bringing in its own solid share of buyers.
As for Motorola, it will have to be content with the fact that the new Moto X will only be available from Verizon, AT&T, US Cellular, and perhaps a few other smaller carriers in the United States.
For the Motorola fans under Sprint though, it is indeed a blow. Which is a shame because the latest Moto X is an impressive handset. It boasts a 5.2-inch AMOLED display screen as well as a 13-megapixel rear camera. Hardware-wise, the device features a 2.5 GigaHertz Snapdragon 801 processor, a significant improvement compared to its previous version.
And following its predecessor, this year's Moto X remains one of the mass market flagship smartphones that can be easily customized. Via Moto Maker, users can pick from various colors and materials, especially for the handset's back covers.
Sadly for Sprint users, they will not be able to take advantage of those options at all. Unless of course, they switch to another carrier.
