Via its Facebook page, HelloMotoHk has posted a set of images that may show the front panel of Moto X+1, the newest version of Moto X, the flagship smartphone of Motorola.
In the posted images, the aforementioned front panel is shown next to a current Moto X. Looking closely, the Moto X+1's front panel appears to have cutouts for the front speaker and earpiece (it's also quite possible that the cutouts are for double front speakers) as well as a cutout for a camera facing forward. The good news for Motorola enthusiasts is that not only do the new Moto X's front panel appear longer compared to the current Moto X, its cutouts are also noticeably longer.
A previous leak suggested that the upcoming version might feature a 5.2-inch 1080p display, which is definitely an improvement from the current Moto X's 4.7-inch screen. This new set of images seem to support the idea of a bigger Moto X handset.
As for the speaker cutouts, they appear to stretch across most of the top and bottom parts of the newest version, with sensors centered somewhere below instead of being off to the side. While it's not clear yet what exactly the cutouts are for as of this writing, it hasn't stopped some mobile tech geeks from guessing. Is this Motorola's attempt at boosting the audio experience in all its future Moto X devices? Are they made for BoomSound speakers?
While nobody is still sure about how the new Moto X handset will look, we do have some idea of what it packs. According to recently spotted benchmarks, the latest version of Motorola's flagship device will feature a quad-core Snapdragon processor (2.6 GigaHertz), 2 gigabytes of random access memory, 16 gigabytes of storage, a 12-megapixel camera, and Android 4.4.4.
Motorola will be having an event this coming September 4 in Chicago. The Moto X+1 is expected to be officially announced during this event, possibly alongside two other new Motorola devices, the Moto 360 and the Moto G2. Release dates are uncertain at this point, but by the time Motorola's event goes underway, people should have a better idea of when they can expect to see the new Moto X in the stores. More importantly, the event should dispel rumors about the latest version of Motorola's flagship device, and confirm once and for all what's in store for those looking to buy the sequel to the Moto X.
Next month promises to be a busy one for mobile manufacturers. South Korean giant Samsung has an event unfolding on September 3, in which they'll likely introduce the new Galaxy Note 4 and perhaps the Gear Solo. And on the same date in which Motorola is holding its event, Internationale Funkausstellung Berlin will be happening in Berlin. In this international trade show, Asus will be launching its first Android Wear device, while software giant Microsoft will be announcing new Lumia devices, including the rumored "selfie phone." Barely a week later on September 9, Apple is set to unveil its highly anticipated iPhone 6.
