All that talk about the iPhone 7 sporting lots of new features have no doubt generated much excitement among iOS mobile users, especially those die hard Apple fans. But based on a recent report from the Wall Street Journal, it may be best for these users not to get their hopes up. Indeed, the Wall Street Journal is reporting that the upcoming iPhone models to be unveiled later this year will only come with minor changes from the most recent flagship devices, the iPhone 6s and the iPhone 6s Plus. In other words, the iPhone 7 might just be more of the same.
Apple basically introduces new designs about every couple of years, with its iPhone S offerings essentially just sporting minor enhancements in between model upgrades. But according to the Wall Street Journal’s sources, the tech giant may be opting to go against habit. Both the 4.7 inch and the 5.5 inch models will reportedly return, but in all likelihood, the two models will not be equipped with the standard 3.5 millimeter headphone jack.
Speaking of the headphone jack, its absence in the upcoming iPhone 7 devices has elicited quite a reaction from iOS mobile users. But nobody is quite sure if the headphone jack is staying or not. It is true that the Wall Street Journal has reported that it will be gone, but certain leaked images suggest otherwise. Before the end of last year, rumors began circulating about Apple going for the Lightning port for facilitating connectivity for headphones. Many believe that getting rid of the 3.5 millimeter headphone jack will actually improve the device’s water proofing capabilities, while at the same time, allowing for slimmer iPhones moving forward.
However, for next year’s iPhone models, that is when Apple will be truly bringing it on. According to the Wall Street Journal, the tech giant will be introducing new features such as an OLED display screen spanning from one edge to another, as well as Touch ID security features that will be part of the display screen itself (the iconic home button will be removed). But why not make these changes this year? Well, 2017 happens to be the 10th anniversary of the iPhone, which means that Apple will be saving the best parts in time for its smartphone’s 10th birthday.
But in light of Apple’s recent sales struggles, some may be forgiven for thinking that Apple will be bringing in major upgrades for this year’s iPhone models. However, it bears noting that everything we have heard so far are nothing but speculation. Who knows? Apple may just surprise us all a few months from now.
