Is 2017 the year for comebacks, especially for old mobile brands? It certainly seems so, with BlackBerry trying to manufacture one, and of course, Nokia, which has recently launched its first ever Android smartphone, the Nokia 6, in China, the world’s biggest market for mobile phones. But there is no doubt many Nokia fans are wondering -- will the Nokia 6 launch in international markets though?
As seen on its Facebook page, Nokia Mobile teased that the Nokia 6 is coming to the Chinese mobile market and that more announcements are under way on February 26th. That date may not mean much for the average consumer, but for mobile tech enthusiasts everywhere, February 26th happens to be the day before the Mobile World Congress starts. This year’s MWC, by the way, will be held in the beautiful city of Barcelona in Spain from February 27th until March 2nd.
Interestingly, there is speculation that BlackBerry has similar plans as Nokia. After showcasing its latest smartphone offering, the BlackBerry Mercury (made by TCL), at the recent Consumer Electronics Show held in the city of Las Vegas in Nevada, the Canadian phone brand is said to be looking to launch the said device during MWC 2017.
The annual MWC event has long served as a venue in which some of the world’s biggest phone makers debut and officially launch their latest smartphone products. For years, familiar names like Samsung, LG, HTC, Sony, and Huawei have taken full advantage of the yearly tech show to introduce their newest devices to the world.
Like BlackBerry, Nokia wants to be a regular feature at MWC moving forward, and it will all start with its Nokia 6 launch this year. Last year, Nokia ceded the licensing of its brand name to HMD, a mobile manufacturer based in Finland (Nokia’s home country). The Nokia 6 marks the first time that HMD has released a Nokia branded device that is powered by Google’s Android mobile operating system. While it is true that China is the number one market for mobile devices across the globe right now, only a worldwide release for the Nokia 6 will truly make the smartphone a household name.
Specifications wise, the Nokia 6 features a 5.5 inch display screen with a resolution of 1,920 by 1,080 pixels, complemented with a 16 megapixel main camera on the rear side plus an 8 megapixel selfie camera on the rear side. Inside, the device packs a Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 chip, with 4 gigabytes of random access memory (RAM) as well as 64 gigabytes of onboard storage. Want to compare the Nokia 6 to other Nokia devices?
