In the last few months, Nokia has been trying to manufacture a comeback for its once dominant brand, with the help of Finnish mobile manufacturer HMD Global, of course. And while the recent releases of a number of Android powered mobile devices (namely, the Nokia 3, the Nokia 5, and the Nokia 6) is all well and good, the company might get a major boost if it comes up with a high end flagship offering.
This is where the rumored Nokia 8 smartphone will play a role. Noted leaker Evan Blass has recently tweeted about the upcoming device, and apart from a sleek look, the handset is said to sport some tasty specifications. According to the report that Blass published in Venture Beat, the Nokia 8 will be fitted with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 chip set (which is considered by many as the most powerful Snapdragon processor yet, also found in Samsung’s current flagship, the Galaxy S8), as well as come with a dual camera set up. Oh, and the device could make its debut before the end of this month.
If these specs turn out to be true, then Nokia will have offered a device that just might compete with other recent high profile Android device releases. As mentioned earlier, the brand was once a top mobile phone maker, but has since seen its popularity significantly erode in the last decade due to the emergence of Apple and other Android device manufacturers such as Samsung and LG. But after HMD Global acquired the rights to use the Nokia brand name last year, the world has seen new devices being launched like the Nokia 3, the Nokia 5, the Nokia 6, and the Nokia 3310 (a sort of 2010s tribute to the iconic classic 1990s version).
But despite the release of those devices, Nokia is not quite there yet, in terms of being a power player in the world of Android. Will the Nokia 8 device help the company do just that? It may be too early to tell, but its rumored specs sheet does look interesting:
5.3 inch QHD display screen, with a resolution of 2,560 by 1,440 pixels
Twin 13 megapixel cameras on the rear side, with optics developed by Carl Zeiss
Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 chip, supported with 4 gigabytes or 6 gigabytes of RAM
Google’s Android 7.1.1 Nougat mobile operating system
