Android fans, rejoice -- the OnePlus 3 handset has officially hit the United States mobile market for a price of $399. About a couple of weeks ago, OnePlus had revealed that its OnePlus 3 device will be launching on June 14th of this year, and true to its promise, its flagship device is now made available for purchase without any need for an invitation.
Those familiar with OnePlus probably already know that it has a rather unique way of releasing its smartphone products. Indeed, when the Chinese phone maker launched its earlier devices, the OnePlus One and the OnePlus 2, buyers can only grab the handsets if they had an invitation. Back then, OnePlus wanted to make sure that it could meet the demand for its smartphones, thus the invite only set up. But now that its devices have developed a following, the company decided to do away with the invitations for good.
Now back to the OnePlus 3 -- the phablet is equipped with a 5.5 inch Optic AMOLED display screen (with a resolution of 1,920 by 1,080 pixels), flanked by a 16 megapixel camera on the rear side (Sony IMX298 sensor, with optical image stabilization, phase detection auto focus, 4K video capture, and 720 pixel slow motion video recording) as well as an 8 megapixel camera on the front side just above the fingerprint scanner. The device is available in color options of Soft Gold and Graphite Gray.
Inside its sleek metallic unibody frame, the OnePlus 3 packs a four core Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chip set, supported with 6 gigabytes of random access memory (RAM), 64 gigabytes of built in memory, and a 3,000 mAh battery (with a USB Type C port and Dash Charge fast charging that allows 60 percent recharge in half an hour). With regards to software, the OnePlus 3 is powered by Google’s Android 6.0.1 mobile operating system beneath the Chinese tech firm’s own custom OxygenOS user interface.
With the launch of the OnePlus 3, OnePlus officially now has four smartphone devices to offer to consumers, including the OnePlus One, the OnePlus 2, and the OnePlus X. Speaking of the OnePlus X, Pete Lau, the chief executive officer of OnePlus, has revealed that the company currently has no plans of releasing a follow up to the budget friendly device. According to Lau, OnePlus is set on turning its undivided attention to releasing flagship devices in the foreseeable future. The OnePlus X was a good offering among low end smartphones, but the decision to strengthen first its flagship foundation is definitely a wise move for the Chinese phone maker.
