Just a few weeks ago, OnePlus launched their latest flagship, the OnePlus 5. The device was highly sought out by those looking for a new phone since it came with impressive specs. Imagine having a device with up to 128 gigabytes of storage, dual cameras on the back of the phone, the latest Snapdragon 835 processor, and get this -- 8 gigabytes of random access memory (RAM). With specs like those, the OnePlus 5 is definitely bound to attract the attention of smartphone enthusiasts.
Unfortunately, there are a few issues with the phone.
As noted by OnePlus 5 users, there have been issues such as an issue with screen scrolling, audio recording, and benchmarking. Just recently, Nick Morrelli (another OnePlus 5 user) complained of having not being able to make emergency calls on his device. Morrelli first noticed the glitch when he tried to call 911 on his phone to get help for a building fire in Seattle. But instead of being able to make the call, his device would reboot. Other users had experienced the same issue except for the rebooting device. What is up, OnePlus?
The issues were made public on a few Reddit forum posts. A video of the glitch has also been posted on Facebook. It can be seen that the phone switches off and on again as soon as the user dialed 911. As noted, the issue stems from the device's connection with emergency services. Other smartphone models usually provide the dispatch desk additional data (like location) during this point. The OnePlus 5 glitch may be because of an error with the code or another different issue.
For its part, OnePlus has already acknowledged the glitch and is working hard to determine what is causing the problem. There have been speculations that the issue could be connected with the device's GPS settings, as reported by The Next Web. OnePlus, however, has not revealed any official findings with the glitch. They are expected to share further details once the glitch has been fixed. In the meantime, the smartphone manufacturer is requesting other users to get in touch with them at email@example.com if they are also encountering the same problem.
As with all the other issues OnePlus is dealing with on their latest flagship smartphone, the company is working hard to make sure these issues get resolved in a short amount of time. This emergency services glitch is indeed a worrying issue but rest assured, the company has a whole team trying to fix it.
Other than these issues, the OnePlus 5 has been an impressive device. It can even be compared with devices like Samsung's Galaxy S8 and Apple's iPhone 7 sans the expensive price tag.
