OnePlus had already introduced two previous smartphones -- the original OnePlus One smartphone back in April of last year, and then followed it up with the OnePlus 2, in August also of this year. With these two devices, the Chinese phone maker had shown that it could produce mobile devices that could take on popular flagship devices from more established names in the mobile industry and in the Android environment (such as the Samsungs and LGs of the world). The great thing about it is that OnePlus is competing with other mobile giants while offering a much cheaper price for its smartphone offerings.
For all the good things about the OnePlus One and the OnePlus 2 devices, one can say that they could have used a bit more style on top of their decent specifications and features. Enter the OnePlus X, which the Chinese mobile manufacturer just unveiled this week. Looking at the third smartphone offering from OnePlus, mobile users might say that it kind of reminds them of Apple’s iPhone 4 and iPhone 5 devices. Take that for what you will, but if you do get compared to a classic (in smartphone terms), it might not be such a bad thing.
Basically, OnePlus has offered a couple of models for the OnePlus X smartphone. There is the Onyx, which has a price of $249, and features a sleek black glass material on its rear side, and there is the Ceramic version, which is priced at around $269. However, it should be noted that the Ceramic edition will not be made available in the United States market. As a matter of fact, OnePlus is only manufacturing about 10,000 units of the Ceramic edition, which means that interested buyers will have to act quickly in order to get their hands on this particular model of the OnePlus X device. It gets even more tricky for would-be buyers of the Ceramic edition -- that is because OnePlus is employing an invite only system in selling this specific variant.
Now on to the specifications -- the OnePlus X features a 5 inch Full HD AMOLED display screen, paired with a 13 megapixel camera (albeit with no 4K video recording capabilities) on the rear side as well as a 8 megapixel camera on the front side. Inside, the device is equipped with a Snapdragon 801 processor (also found in LG’s G3 and Sony’s Xperia Z3) that is supported by 3 gigabytes of random access memory (RAM) and 16 gigabytes of internal memory, which can be expanded via a micro SD slot that can support up to 128 additional gigabytes. The device possesses a 2,525 mAh battery, and comes with a tray that can hold a couple of SIM cards. Software wise, the OnePlus X is powered by OxygenOS, which is a clean take on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop.
The OnePlus X Onyx edition will be launching in European and Indian markets on November 5th of this year, and will be hitting the US market a couple of weeks soon after. As for the Ceramic variant, it will start to become available on November 24th, but only for those who got invites.
