Specifically, the report states that Pokemon Go has breached the $500 millionth mark in terms of global user spending in both Android and iOS mobile operating systems. Furthermore, players of the game had walked more than 4.6 billion kilometers while trying to capture little cute monsters with equally cute names. The game is even set to land on the Apple Watch. And although Apple did not mention Pokemon Go by name, the app probably had something to do with the fact that the App Store has enjoyed a 106 percent improvement year over year in the last couple of months alone. Impressive.
Early last month, App Annie had actually projected Pokemon Go to surpass $350 million in sales since it came out in the early part of July. Obviously, the game went on to exceed that projection quite easily. For context, there are other successful mobile games released before, but they generally take over two months to breach the $500 millionth mark. For instance, it took Candy Crush Saga more than 200 days to reach that mark; Puzzle & Dragons and Clash of Clans took more than 400 days to achieve the same.
Things are really going well for Pokemon Go. And the crazy thing is: it is earning from other avenues, too. In Japan for instance, McDonald’s became the first ever sponsored location for the mobile app, which basically means that all of its 3,000 outlets in the Land of the Rising Sun will be transformed into Pokemon Go gyms.
