According to a report published online by tech news website ETNews just this week, the world’s biggest seller of smartphones will start producing its upcoming phablet, the Galaxy Note 7, next month, just in time for a possible launching in August of this year. Samsung will reportedly build around 5 million units of the device to meet the initial demand.
Last year, Samsung had decided to manufacture 5 million units of its Galaxy Note 5 (for those wondering where’s the Galaxy Note 6, the South Korean mobile giant has reportedly decided to skip it and proceed to releasing the Galaxy Note 7 next), but this volume was meant for a whole quarter’s supply. As for the upcoming Galaxy Note 7, Samsung is clearly anticipating more robust sales for the device when it launches later this year.
Not too long ago, Samsung went through an unfortunate series of decreasing quarterly sales. However, since the release of its current flagship devices -- the Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 Edge, the South Korean phone maker has bounced back, with its newest Galaxy S7 devices helping spur a 12 percent increase in revenues during the last quarter. Will Samsung continue its winning streak with the launch of its latest Galaxy Note offering?
That remains to be seen for now. Samsung is clearly hoping that the Galaxy Note 7 will be as well received as the Galaxy S7 devices. Features wise, it appears that the company is ready to bring it on, that is if the rumors turn out to be true. The Galaxy Note 7 is said to feature a dual edge display screen. With the Galaxy S6 Edge and the Galaxy S7 Edge and also the Galaxy Note Edge, Samsung has achieved some success making full use of curved display screens in high profile handsets. But while the Galaxy Note Edge only had one curved edge, the Galaxy Note 7 will reportedly be the first Galaxy Note device to come with curved edges on both sides (just like the Galaxy S6 Edge and the Galaxy S7 Edge). Not only that, there also rumors circulating that the Galaxy Note 7 will be equipped with a 5.8 inch display screen, plus iris scanning technology. Moreover, as suggested by a leaked image (courtesy of SamMobile), Samsung’s Galaxy Note 7 could be announced on August 2nd of this year. If the company is starting production in July, unveiling the device a month after seems a bit too soon. But like any rumor out there, nobody knows for sure until Samsung confirms it.
