The last month has been a busy one for ROK Mobile. The carrier is taking part in the SF Mobile World Congress Americas, which is currently ongoing this week at the Moscone Center in the city of San Francisco in California. Also recently, the mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) was honored at the United Nations by none other than Dan Thomas (UN PGA Spokesman) for the company’s support of United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal No. 14 - Life Below Water. Lastly, the company also launched plans for GSM.
Among today’s MVNOs, ROK Mobile is one of the most socially conscious. As recently as July earlier this year, the wireless service provider even introduced the #Vets2Vets program that aims to give free wireless service to an estimated 50,000 homeless veterans across the United States. The program is set to officially begin a little more than a month from now, and is looking to provide a free handset and wireless service to homeless veterans starting this year until 2018. ROK Mobile is also promising to donate free service to homeless veteran for life for every two customers that decide to sign up for the #Vets2Vets program.
And for those who missed the news, ROK Mobile also brought back its GSM plans a few weeks ago. For guidance, the plans are as follows:
Launching new GSM plans should be a good step for ROK Mobile, especially in terms of expanding its reach. This basically means that the MVNO can now offer plans that can work on both CDMA and GSM networks. For those who can not quite wrap their head around that technical stuff, just know that CDMA is the type of network being used by Verizon Wireless, Sprint, and US Cellular. As for GSM, it is the wireless tech being utilized by AT&T and T-Mobile. Users who own a device that works on a GSM network (either provided by AT&T, T-Mobile, or via an MVNO) will not be able to switch over to a CDMA network, unless of course they buy a handset that is CDMA-compatible. For those looking to switch to ROK Mobile, the fact that the carrier now works on both CDMA and GSM networks should make it easier for switchers to sign up to ROK Mobile.
