Apple has been the biggest innovator in smart devices in the 21st century. At the first release of each device in their iconic trilogy--iPod, iPhone, and iPad-- Apple has absolutely dominated the industry. The iPod revolutionized the way we listened to music, the iPhone revolutionized the way we communicated, and the iPad revolutionized the way we connected with the world. Ever since Apple lost Steve Jobs, it seems they have lost their ability to innovate. We haven't seen a new device from Apple that hat has changed the way we live our lives since the iPad over 4 years ago.
Though it would not be the first of its kind, if Apple were to come out with some sort of smartwatch, it would no doubt be years ahead in design and ability than any of its competitors. This week we received a bit of excitement and perhaps false positives that Apple would be releasing its very first iWatch when prominent Apple blogger, John Gruber, hinted that Apple would release a wearable device this September. Gruber quickly backtracked his steps and later tweeted that he was only joking; nevertheless, the hype is here and speculations are swirling. Gruber has a successful track record of predicting the specs of Apple's devices, correctly releasing the size of the iPhone 5c, 5s, and iPad mini.
Though Apple, per usual, has not commented on the rumors, if they are to release a smart watch anytime in the near future there are a few things that we are pretty confident that they will do. We believe that the release of a smartwatch would come paired with the release of a new iPhone. This is the route Samsung took when it released its first Samsung Gear smartwatch simultaneously with its Galaxy Note 3, both of which did very well (in sales, at least).
With the new emphasis that Apple has put on health in recent years, their smartwatch will most likely come with applications and sensors that will allow you to measure and keep track of health stats like blood pressure and heart rate.
The time is now for Tim Cook to finally prove himself as a worthy leader in the post-Jobs era. He has said that 2014 will see new Apple devices, and after a disappointing couple of years at the helm, Cook will certainly be looking to prove the naysayers wrong.
