Looking for a bigger version of Samsung's Galaxy S6 smartphone? You just might get your wish soon. Samsung is reportedly planning to introduce the Galaxy S6 Plus, a new version of its latest flagship device that sports a 5.5 inch display screen, according to Italian blog HDBlog.it.
Apart from the upsized display screen, the South Korean mobile giant is purportedly planning to add other new features to this new Galaxy S6 variant. This project is internally referred to as Project Zero 2 (formerly Project Zen) at Samsung, and the company is said to be announcing its newest smartphone offering in the new few weeks instead of at this year's Internationale Funkausstellung (IFA) conference to be held in the city of Berlin in Germany in September of this year.
Introducing a Plus variant of an existing flagship device is nothing new to Samsung. As a matter of fact, back in April of 2014, the South Korean phone maker launched a Galaxy S5 Plus edition of its Galaxy S5. Samsung had highlighted the fact that the Galaxy S5 Plus device sported a more powerful processor than the regular Galaxy S5.
As for its Galaxy S6 device, there is no reason that Samsung should not do the same. And considering the ever increasing popularity of phablets, or smartphones with large display screens, nowadays, it seems only logical that the company would also try to add a new smartphone option to its customers, especially those in need of a device with a more generous display screen size. Moreover, the Galaxy S6 Plus would serve as a nice alternative to the Galaxy Note 5 phablet, which Samsung is also planning to officially announce at the upcoming IFA conference.
But wait -- this is just a rumor after all, so what are the chances of this actually happening? HDBlog.it did cite reliable sources for its story, but in the world of mobile, nothing is ever certain until the date of unveiling.
But if this rumor turns out to be true, the Galaxy S6 Plus should be a device worth checking out. Its 5.5 inch display screen will likely be fitted with a Super AMOLED display, which should delight users especially those particular with display screen specs. Also, the Galaxy S6 Plus will also feature a display screen that curves to the sides, similar to the Galaxy S6 Edge's. Other rumored specs include a 16 megapixel camera on the rear side, a 5 megapixel camera on the front side, a hexa core Snapdragon 808 processor, and 32 gigabytes of internal storage.
