Is Apple’s upcoming iPhone 7 going to be the first iPhone device to feature stereo speakers? Apparently so, according to information shared to the world by Japanese based blog site Mac Otakara just this week. Apart from the stereo speaker rumors, Mac Otakara also reported other new features and enhancements in the newest generation of iPhone devices, which everybody is waiting to be officially unveiled in September later this year.
Stereo speakers aside, the iPhone 7 is also said to get rid of the 3.5 millimeter audio jack. This was previously reported on early this year, with various reports stating that Apple was planning to course audio via the Lightning port. This news was not met warmly by some of Apple’s users, and in January this year, more than 200,000 users even signed a petition urging Apple not to kill off the headphone jack in the iPhone 7 and future models. According to Mac Otakara, the Lightning port on the iPhone 7 may be slimmer but will still probably be compatible with current cables.
The iPhone 7 will also reportedly come with a rear side camera lens that lies flat against the device’s body, unlike the iPhone 6s’ which protrudes from the body. And even though it was previously rumored that the iPhone 7 will have a dual lens camera, Mac Otakara reports that it will not be so.
Mac Otakara also reports that the iPhone 7 will come with the same physical dimensions as the iPhone 6s, except for the thickness, with the upcoming device a bit thinner on account of its LCD display screen a millimeter slimmer than the iPhone 6s’. Previous rumors may have suggested that the iPhone 7 will be water proof, but according to the Japanese blog, there will be no water resistant capabilities for the newest iPhone, but it will feature the same metal frame used in the iPhone 6s, which is more water resistant compared to older iPhone generations.
It now appears that the iPhone models released last year -- the iPhone 6s and the iPhone 6s Plus -- did not come with enough new features to persuade iPhone owners to upgrade. This will surely hurt Apple’s sales, and even Tim Cook, the chief executive officer of the company, has predicted that sales of iPhone devices will decrease this quarter for the first time in the product’s history. This is why it is imperative that in the iPhone 7, Apple deliver something new in order to get its core customers interested in purchasing its flagship devices.
