As indicated by a report published by 9to5Mac, Apple could be preparing to officially announce a new 4 inch iPhone device in March of this year (echoing another earlier forecast). Over the years, 9to5Mac has established quite a reputation for being one of the first to report on the latest Apple related developments. This time around, the tech blog is saying that a new iPhone device, called the iPhone 5SE, could be unveiled about a couple of months from now.
In the last couple of years, Apple has truly gone the phablet route with the release of its iPhone 6 and iPhone 6s series of smartphones. These devices hold the distinction of sporting much larger display screens compared to previous iPhone models, and consumers loved them, picking them off store shelves at a record pace.
By releasing an iPhone model with a smaller display screen, Apple may appear to be killing its own momentum. But a smaller iPhone could actually cater to those who prefer getting the latest Apple flagship device that is more manageable with just one hand. iPhones are Apple’s main source of profit, and having another smartphone option to offer to customers with specific display screen size preferences could not hurt.
According to 9to5Mac, the new 4 inch iPhone could come with curved glass edges (similar to the iPhone 6 models), A8 and M8 chip sets, 8 megapixel and 1.2 megapixel cameras, support for Live Photos and the Apple Pay mobile payment system, but no pressure sensitive 3D Touch technology. The device may be made available in colors of silver, space gray, or rose gold, and it could launch late in March or in April at a price range similar to the iPhone 5S.
The tech blog also states that the iPhone maker could be introducing new iPad tablet devices within the year. The latest iPad offerings are said to be codenamed as iPad 6,3 and iPad 6,4. These devices are potentially being prepped for a launch date late in 2016, possibly in the month of November.
Apart from unveiling a smaller iPhone model as well as new iPad tablet devices, Apple is said to be readying to roll out updates to the Apple Watch. These include new materials and new band styles for the tech giant’s first and only wearable device so far. And considering that the company is fine tuning a beta version of its newest software update for its sole smartwatch to date, iOS users (especially those who own Apple Watch devices) can expect a new software roll out most likely in March of this year. Lastly, 9to5Mac has also stated that Apple may unveil a complete redesign of its Apple Watch before this year ends.
