When the Samsung Galaxy Alpha was announced earlier this month, many geeked out over the soon-to-hit-store-shelves device's metal frame. The South Korea-based company is typically known for its plastic-clad mobile devices, so having a metal frame was definitely a welcome change for fans of the mobile manufacturing giant.
Now, Samsung has revealed that going metal was its plan all along. According to SamMobile, the phone maker is set to introduce a new "A" series of smartphones, which will include for now at least three devices, namely the SM-A300, SM-A500, and the SM-A700. These trio of products are likely to have designs similar to the Galaxy Alpha, which comes with a sleek metal body.
Furthermore, this new series of smartphones are expected to cover several price points. For instance, the SM-A500 will sport a 960 x 540 display screen and will likely be an entry-level smartphone that runs on Android 4.4 KitKat. As for the SM-A500 and SM-A700, they may feature 1280 x 720 HD display screens. All of these new models are expected to have premium quality front-facing cameras.
The SM-A300, SM-A500, and the SM-A700 are expected to be introduced by Samsung during the third quarter of 2014. With that in mind, fans of Samsung's products should be able to get their hands on any of the new devices sometime by September.
Samsung's decision to use metal frames in its future products may be considered a good move. The phone maker has received some criticism in the past for its frequent use of plastic in its mobile devices. Now, it looks like Samsung is finally beginning to explore other materials other than plastic for its products.
Of course, the release of the Galaxy Alpha phone started it all. Expected to hit store shelves this coming September, Samsung's newest flagship device features a 4.7-inch display, advanced camera, and real-time HDR. It also uses the revolutionary Exynos 5430 chip, the first of its kind to use a 20 nanometer process, which promises better performance especially when it comes to high-resolution displays such as WQHD (Wide Quad HD) and WQXGA (Wide XGA). Its other features also include Ultra-Power Saving Mode, S Health, Finger Print Scanner, Private Mode as well as easy connectivity with Samsung's Gear Fit, Gear Live and Gear 2 wearables. Buyers can choose from the following color options: Dazzling White, Charcoal Black, Frosted Gold, Scuba Blue and Sleek Silver.
