If it seems like everybody and their uncle is coming out with their own home brewed application store, it's because they are. Joining in the ranks of a rapidly growing number of equipment manufacturers and wireless carriers, Samsung announced it will launch its own mobile device application store in Europe on September 14th.
The store will first be accessible in the United Kingdom, Italy and France, with a mobile global roll out planned in the coming months. At launch, Samsung's application store is anticipated to offer about 300 applications with more than 2,000 applications expected to be available by year's end.
Applications will be available on Samsung devices running either Symbian or Windows Mobile, putting it in direct competition with Mircrosoft's recently announced Windows Marketplace for Mobile. The application store will first be available for installation on the Omnia and Omnia i8910 HD smartphone handsets, and available to more devices in the future.
