You may have already heard about the latest Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge leaks that invaded the Internet recently (courtesy of Evan Blass). Perhaps to further increase the buzz for its upcoming flagship devices, Samsung has decided to set up an official launch website for the two smartphones. What should delight Android fans is the fact that the website comes with a new promotional video for the Galaxy S7 Edge that teases about the device’s features. As for the Galaxy S7’s teaser video, it mainly touches on the handset’s Gear VR platform.
In the video called “Get Ready for the #NextGalaxy,” what appears to be the new Galaxy S7 Edge is displayed getting rained on. Based on this teaser, could we expect the Galaxy S7 Edge to have water resistance capabilities. Samsung has actually included water proofing features in earlier Galaxy devices before, especially with the Galaxy S5 released in 2014. But the flagship devices that debuted last year -- the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 Edge -- were not water resistant (officially), with the South Korean phone maker deciding instead to include this capability in the Galaxy S6 Active handset. If the Galaxy S7 Edge does turn out to be water resistant, Android fans (especially those outdoor types) should have more reason to celebrate.
The promotional video also depicts a specific handset strapped to the arm of Indonesian archer Dellie Threesyadinda, and apparently being used with Samsung’s Gear S2 smartwatch in tracking heart rate. We can then assume that the tech giant’s new flagship devices have some interesting health and fitness related features to offer.
Wireless charging capabilities are also hinted at in the video. However, considering that wireless charging has been built into last year’s Galaxy S6 smartphones, this may not be too surprising. But still, there is reason to hope that despite the feature having already existed in earlier Galaxy devices, the one sported by the Galaxy S7 devices should be more polished.
Also, the video finishes with a camera related shot of the incoming handset. This should be connected to the “bring light to the night” tagline seen in one of the teasers, and should no doubt hint at better low light capabilities of the upcoming devices’ cameras.
It is interesting to note though that the teaser never makes mention of any pressure sensitive display screen (as previously rumored). Also, the new flagship devices appear to have about the same designs as the current Galaxy S6 devices. Sure, plenty of cool new features are hinted at, but those expecting new designs might be a tad disappointed. Still, what we have is just a tease, after all. By next week, we should have more knowledge by then of the real McCoy.
