Attention, owners of Samsung’s newest flagship devices, the Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 Edge -- the South Korean mobile giant is offering a bonus $30 gift card for S7 or S7 Edge users who sign up for Samsung Pay and complete their first qualified purchase using the Samsung Pay mobile app. The bonus $30 gift card can be used at any of five retail shops that include Best Buy, eBay, Nike, Regal Entertainment, and Whole Foods.
In order to become eligible for the $30 gift card, Galaxy S7 or Galaxy S7 Edge users must download the free Samsung Pay mobile app from Google Play, and then sign up for the South Korean phone maker’s mobile payment system using their Samsung account ID. They will then have to put in a qualified Visa, MasterCard, or American Express credit or debit card, and complete their first Samsung Pay purchase transaction before the end of this month. When users have made their first purchase using Samsung Pay, their Galaxy S7 or Galaxy S7 Edge will receive a pop up notification informing them of their free $30 gift card. All the users need to do next is accept the terms and conditions, and choose their preferred retail store from the five alternatives. Note though that Bank of America Debit and private label cards do not qualify for this special deal.
Samsung has been on a roll lately. A few days ago, industry leading wireless carrier Verizon Wirelessintroduced its latest special offer, a buy one, get one deal that involves any one of the new Galaxy S7 devices and a Galaxy Core Prime handset. Earlier last week, two other major US wireless carriers, AT&T and T-Mobile, had announced separate buy one, get one deals for the South Korean mobile manufacturer’s latest smartphone offerings. And now, Samsung is making things even more exciting by offering a free $30 gift card, and at the same time, getting people to use the contactless mode of payment it launched in the US back in September of last year.
Samsung Pay functions similarly to Apple Pay in the sense that it allows mobile users to pay for things purchased through their smartphones. But unlike Apple’s mobile payment system, Samsung Pay does not depend on near field communications (NFC) technology to facilitate purchase transactions. Instead, it makes full use of fingerprint reading and PIN inputting to verify the user’s identity. Owners of Samsung devices such as the Galaxy Note 5, last year’s flagship devices the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge, the Galaxy S6 Edge+, and this year’s Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge bought at wireless carriers such as Verizon Wireless, AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, and US Cellular are all qualified to sign up for Samsung Pay. Banks that have support for Samsung’s mobile payment system include Bank of America, Chase, CitiBank, US Bank, and Wells Fargo, among many others.
