Yup, according to D.J. Koh, the new mobile chief of the biggest seller of smartphone devices in the world. While in Taiwan recently, Koh told members of the local media that Samsung will be formally introducing the Galaxy Note 8 by late August of this year, as reported by ePrice. While the high ranking executive did not mention any specific date, industry watchers are betting that it might August 23rd or August 26th in New York City.
Koh also took the opportunity to reveal to reporters that the latest addition to the Galaxy Note family of phablets will be launching in September through October of this year (as rumored). The launch dates will presumably vary depending on which specific market across the globe. Samsung’s mobile chief also did not mention which mobile markets will get the Galaxy Note 8 first, but based on recent releases from the South Korean phone maker, most notably this year’s flagship offering, the Galaxy S8, the phablet will likely be released first in Samsung’s homeland as well as in the United States. Weeks or months after that, the device should make its way to other parts of the world.
This is not the first time that Koh has talked about the Galaxy Note 8. As a matter of fact, it was reported back in January early this year that Koh fully expects the device to hit store shelves some time in 2017. Of course, everybody knows that the Galaxy Note 8 is the follow up to the ill fated Galaxy Note 7. Samsung did well in recovering from that massive disaster by releasing the Galaxy S8 (considered by many as the new Android powered mobile device to beat this year). But as far as the Galaxy Note lineup of devices is concerned, the Galaxy Note 8 would mark the first time Samsung is releasing a new flagship phablet.
If the Galaxy Note 8 does make its debut in late August of this year, then Samsung will get a jump on its rivals, particularly fellow South Korean tech giant LG, who is looking to unveil its V30 phablet on August 31st, and of course, fierce rival Apple, whose iPhone 8 is expected to be announced in September.
Suffice it to say that the second half of the year is already looking to become another ultra competitive six month period for mobile, which everybody is expecting at this point as we all head to the busy holiday shopping season.
