Last month, Samsung had announced that its latest flagship devices, the Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 Edge, would launch on March 11th of this year. Fans of Galaxy smartphones certainly have every reason to get excited this week, and they are about to get another reason to celebrate as major US wireless carriers AT&T and T-Mobile are both unleashing separate “buy one, get one” special offers for the South Korean phone maker’s newest handset offerings.
Back in February early this year, AT&T had introduced a buy one smartphone, get one free promotional deal wherein customers who buy an eligible Apple iPhone or Samsung Galaxy device on either a new line of service, or (for current subscribers) an upgrade, they will receive a second qualified handset from same phone maker (Apple, Samsung) absolutely free of charge. For Samsung devices, this offer applied to the Galaxy S6, the Galaxy S6 Edge, the Galaxy S6 Edge+, the Galaxy S6 Active, and the Galaxy Note 5.
But AT&T has since extended this deal to include both the Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 Edge. The arrangement is that customers who purchase either the Galaxy S7 or the Galaxy S7 Edge get to receive an extra Galaxy S7 to their account free of charge. The deal is open to both new and existing subscribers purchasing the Galaxy S7 or the Galaxy S7 Edge via AT&T’s Next early upgrade program. The second free handset must be bought on the AT&T Next 24 option, which spreads payments for devices over a period of 30 months, and offers an early upgrade option after 24 months.
For the second handset, customers will need to add a new line of service, or (for new subscribers) open a minimum of two lines of service). Customers also must pay sales tax on both new Galaxy devices, plus complete the monthly device payment for each smartphone including the second free device.
Note though that while customers will be paying $23.17 for their second handset, AT&T will start refunding them this amount by way of a monthly bill credit after the customer’s first three bill cycles. They will get a $23.17 monthly credit over the next 30 months, which is equal to a total reimbursement of $695 to cover the cost of the second free Galaxy S7 device.
As for T-Mobile’s deal, it basically the same as AT&T’s, although those who avail of T-Mobile’s ffer will get their device reimbursement in one payment. Both new and existing subscribers purchasing either the Galaxy S7 or the Galaxy S7 Edge via the wireless carrier’s Equipment Installment Plan (EIP) will be able to get a second handset to their plan, and then receive full reimbursement by way of prepaid MasterCard.
Like AT&T’s offer, T-Mobile requires customers to open a new line of service for their second free device. As soon as customers purchase their new Galaxy device via EIP and get at least one new line of service to their plan, they will be required to submit their rebate redemption through a T-Mobile Promotions web page, together with their T-Mobile phone number and PIN, plus their promo code, within 30 days of purchase.
In eight weeks, T-Mobile will provide a prepaid MasterCard for the value of the customer’s second free handset ($699.99 for the Galaxy S7, $779.99 for the Galaxy S7 Edge). Customers are able to claim up to two free handsets with this deal, as long as they are on an eligible postpaid Simple Choice plan.
