It appears that the 30 day trial promo that was recently launched by Samsung is proving to be a success so far. The South Korean phone maker stated that all of the Galaxy handset units that it had prepared for the test drive program (those who availed of the promo can choose between the Galaxy Note 5, the Galaxy S6 Edge+, and the Galaxy S6 Edge phablets) have already been reserved for certain users. For those not in the know, this promo by Samsung is specifically being offered only to uses who currently own an iPhone device.
Last year's release of the iPhone 6 and its bigger sibling the iPhone 6 Plus has not only generated record sales for Apple, but it has also contributed immensely in Samsung’s current woes of declining smartphone sales and shrinking market share. Perhaps the South Korean mobile giant had no choice but to go on the offensive -- specifically targeting iPhone users and enticing them to try Samsung’s newest phablet offerings.
So far, the plan seems to be working. The promo officially went live at 12:01 AM ET, and basically let iPhone owners try the Galaxy Note 5, the Galaxy S6 Edge+, or the Galaxy S6 Edge for 30 days essentially for free (they only need to pay $1 for the processing fee). The phablets, which came with free voice calls, text messaging, and a data plan, were all reserved within a number of hours, as states by a Samsung spokesperson.
Perhaps the next question now is: will Samsung prepare additional units of the Galaxy phablets in order to cater to those who are still willing to avail of the promo? Of course, it will. After all, this program serves as a really good opportunity for the company to increase publicity for its Galaxy devices while at the same time, get a shot at possibly grabbing away some of Apple’s users. Apple fans are generally loyal folks, for sure, but if Samsung can manage to tempt even only a few, it would still be considered a win, albeit only a minor one.
As mentioned earlier, Samsung’s trial period gives users a full 30 days to use any one of the three Galaxy phablets specified for the promo. Once the 30 day period is finished, customers can either decided to give back the trial handset, or choose to upgrade. Samsung’s test drive program is also made available for iPhone owning subscribers of the Big Four wireless carriers in the United States, namely Verizon Wireless, AT&T, T-Mobile, and Sprint.
