Following in the foot steps of Samsung's Galaxy S series Android-powered lineup which swiftly made its way to T-Mobile, AT&T, Sprint and Verizon Wireless, Samsung has revealed that its iPad competitor will also blitz the four major U.S. wireless carriers in plenty of time to end up under your Christmas tree (or Hanukah bush). The Samsung Galaxy Tab is widely expected to begin shipping in the next several weeks.
Wirefly pricing and carrier data plan details have not yet been announced, but the luscious specs of Samsung's Galaxy Tab are officially outed. The Tab will run Android 2.2 (a.k.a. Froyo), and will be powered by a 1 GHz Cortex A8 Hummingbird processor. The device will tout a 7-inch TFT LCD WSVGA display that measures in at 2.7-inches smaller than that of the iPad, but helps render the Tab supremely portable and able to be clutched by one hand.
Optimized for on-the-go-entertainment, the Tab will provide up to seven hours of continuous video playback and offer 16GB of on-board storage space -- and if that's not enough for you, the Tab supports up to a 32GB microSD card. Android 2.2 Froyo delivers support for Adobe Flash 10.1 for mobile Flash movie watching, and the Tab will come with a car dock for supersize GPS navigation capabilities.
The Galaxy Tab is equipped with a front-facing 1.3-megapixel camera for video calling and a 3-megapixel rear-facing camera with autofocus and an LED flash. Samsung's answer to the iPad will offer WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity, and also support mobile hotspot capabilities for wirelessly sharing its mobile internet connection with multiple WiFi-enabled devices simultaneously.
