Entering into the second half of the year, we can expect plenty of rumors regarding upcoming smartphone flagships (which will be released just as we head into the busy holiday shopping season) will be flooding headlines each and every week. As the number one smartphone vendor in the mobile industry, Samsung will attract loads of speculation, particularly about its next Galaxy Note phablet offering (mainly because this year’s newest Galaxy S devices have already hit the market). So here we go ...
As recently tweeted by leaker Ice Universe (picked up by SamMobile), the soon to be revealed Galaxy Note 9 will sport a magisterial 4,000 mAh battery. To provide some context, last year’s Galaxy Note 8 came with a 3,300 mAh battery. But it should be noted that things are not that simple -- what happened with the Galaxy Note 8 was that Samsung was being extra careful with the battery specs because of the Galaxy Note 7 mess the year before. Just for the record, the Galaxy Note 7 was fitted with a 3,500 mAh battery.
Regardless, if this rumor is true, the Galaxy Note 9’s battery should easily trump that of its two predecessors. But it bears mentioning though that even with a 4,000 mAh battery, the Galaxy Note 9’s battery life can still be affected by the size of the display, the software being used, and how efficient the phablet is when it comes to consuming power.
There is also talk that the South Korean tech giant will be launching a brand new fast wireless charger that should fit nicely with the Galaxy Note 9’s humongous battery. After all, the phone maker did register a wireless charger -- designated as EP-N6100 -- with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). Based on the FCC listing, the charger is capable of delivering 12 volts at 2.1 amperes, which is good enough to rival a 25W wired fast charger, and even more powerful than Samsung’s existing 9W fast wireless charger.
Meanwhile, there is talk that Samsung’s rumored foldable smartphone is starting production soon, and it might be priced at a whopping $2,000. Per the Korea Times, analyst Park Hyung-woo from Shinhan Financial has predicted that Samsung’s supplier partners will begin building initial components for the folding handset, which might make its commercial debut some time next year. On top of that, Kim Jang-yeol from Golden Bridge Investment is predicting that the pricing (non-subsidized) could be at about $1,850.
