Sony has officially confirmed the pricing and availability details of its newest Xperia X smartphone offerings -- the Xperia XZ and the Xperia X Compact. For the full size Xperia XZ, it will be made available in the United States mobile market on October 2nd of this year at a suggested retail price of $700. As for the smaller Xperia X Compact, it will hit store shelves in America this coming September 25th at a price of $500.
For comparison’s sake, the Xperia XZ is a little less pricey than Apple’s iPhone 7 Plus (which is priced at $769), that is when comparing their 32 gigabyte editions. As for the Xperia X Compact, it is similarly less expensive than the iPhone 7 (priced at $649). Sony’s latest Xperia handsets also have a price advantage over Samsung’s Galaxy Note 7, the Android phablet which is priced at $850 and has come under fire recently due to issues involving overheating batteries.
The new Xperia smartphones were first introduced by Sony at this year’s IFA tech trade show held in the city of Berlin in Germany. The Xperia XZ comes with a 5.2 inch Full HD Triluminos display screen that features a resolution of 1,080 pixels. As far as camera specifications go, the device device boasts a mind blowing 23 megapixel camera on the rear side (with Predictive Hybrid Auto Focus), paired nicely with an impressive 13 megapixel camera on the front side. Inside its frame, the Xperia XZ is packed with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 64 bit quad core processor that is supported by 3 gigabytes of random access memory (RAM) and either 32 gigabytes or 64 gigabytes of onboard storage, which can be further expanded to 256 gigabytes by way of a micro SD card. As expected of any Sony mobile device, the Xperia XZ boasts a dust proof and water resistance rating of IP68, which allows the handset to be submerged under water at a depth of 1.5 meters for about 30 minutes. Out of the box, the Xperia XZ comes preinstalled with Google’s Android 6.01 Marshmallow.
The smaller Xperia X Compact features a 4.6 inch HD display screen with a 720 pixel resolution. Similar to its bigger sibling, the Xperia X Compact is equipped with a 23 megapixel camera on the rear side, but its front side shooter is a bit more modest at only 5 megapixels. Hardware specs wise, the Xperia X Compact is fitted with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 650 64 bit six core processor, complemented with 3 gigabytes of RAM and 32 gigabytes of built in memory, also expandable to up to 256 gigabytes of space through its micro SD card slot. Like the Xperia XZ, the Xperia X Compact comes with Android Marshmallow.
