Nearly one month after it was unceremoniously discontinued by T-Mobile, the Sony Xperia Z3 is back on the carrier's store shelves. Fans of Sony's handsets now have a fresh new chance to purchase the handset for $0 down and 24 regular installments of $20.83 every month for two years, or for $500 outright.
The Xperia Z3's comeback should be welcome news to Sony and the smartphone's fans after it was suddenly yanked off the store shelves of T-Mobile almost one month earlier. At that time, the carrier did not release any official statement explaining the reason for the discontinuation of the device. It did state that it was continuously in the process of adjusting its portfolio of mobile devices depending on the current supply and customer demand. As for Sony, the Japanese phone maker similarly remained mum regarding the subject.
But in a recent statement made to the Verge just recently, T-Mobile explained that it had waited to get more inventory from Sony so that it could support taking more orders. The carrier further stated that customers can expect to see the Xperia Z3 handset back in store shelves within the week.
Sony released the Xperia Z3 smartphone late last year as a device that would compete with other prominent Android-running devices, especially those offered by Samsung, LG, and HTC. The handset features a 5.2 inch full HD display screen, has a 20.7 megapixel camera on the rear side, and an impressive battery that can last for 16 hours of talk time.
When it was launched, the Sony Xperia Z3 smartphone met very good reviews, with critics lauding the device's high-quality display and a strong combination of features that should hold its own against other Android handsets.
In October of last year, T-Mobile had confirmed that it would be selling the Xperia Z3. Buyers could get the handset for $26.25 per month for a period of 24 months under the carrier's equipment installment plan. T-Mobile had highlighted the phone's release then, stating that the Xperia Z3 would create a powerful combination with the the carrier's network. To sweeten the deal, the carrier had also announced that buyers of the smartphone could download a maximum of six movies absolutely free of charge.
Now that the Xperia Z3 is back in T-Mobile's stores, there is a noticeable difference in pricing. Over time, the prices of mobile devices normally go down, as many sellers try to entice customers to take interest in handsets that have stayed on shelves for long. The same thing could be happening to the Xperia Z3 right now at T-Mobile.
Interestingly, the Xperia Z3 is doing much better at Verizon Wireless. The Big Red's Xperia Z3v (basically just an Xperia Z3 fitted with a few Verizon-only features) has managed to stay on store shelves for a while now, priced at $0.99 with a standard two year agreement, $20.83 a month for 24 months, or $500 outright.
