One day after T-Mobile revealed that it will be offering free Pokemon Go data for its subscribers for a whole year, another major US wireless carrier is debuting a new Pokemon related offer. Indeed, Sprint has announced that Pokemon hunting mobile users can now go visit the nearest Sprint or Boost Mobile outlet and get expert advice from on-site Pokemon Go experts, who will be more than willing to give tips and tricks for customers who have not quite yet mastered the art of catching those cute and weird little monsters. These Pokemon Go experts can also provide assistance in search for Gyms and PokeStops in the vicinity, and then offer charging stations for all visiting users in-store, absolutely free of charge. And yes, this is really happening.
On top of all this, Sprint and and its prepaid brand Boost Mobile will have lures in order to attract those cleverly named critters to retail outlets. You can just imagine this scenario -- a user visits a Sprint or Boost Mobile store and gets to enjoy Pokemon hunting tips from experts, and then maybe catch a Bulbasaur while they’re at it. There is no word on just when the Pokemon Go experts will be present in Sprint and Boost Mobile stores. If Pokemon Go goes on to still be a hit months from now, then these experts are expected to be in-store.
For those not caught in Pokemania yet, the Pokemon Go augmented reality mobile app has become the most downloaded game in both Android and iOS platforms about ten days after it was released. As of this writing, reports state that more than 21 million users are playing the mobile game on a daily basis, and that is in the United States mobile market alone.
The consensus is that the Pokemon Go mobile game does not really eat up a lot of data, but that has not stopped T-Mobile from offering its subscribers one full year of zero rated Pokemon Go data by way of its T-Mobile Tuesdays app beginning next week.
In the case of Sprint and Boost Mobile, their latest offer appears to be designed to increase real world traffic to their physical stores. Sprint may still be the fourth biggest wireless carrier in America right now, but it is no secret that the company is having some struggles lately, particularly with regards to its prepaid arms. Playing along with the Pokemon Go hype certainly could not hurt.
