It is official -- Sprint is indeed intending on including basic Hulu service, free of charge, to its unlimited plans, beginning on November 17th. Less than a week ago, it was reported that the major US wireless carrier was planning to add free Hulu subscriptions, and the company is now taking the opportunity to confirm the news.
For those not familiar with Hulu subscriptions, just know that the basic option is typically priced at $5.99 per month for the first full year of the subscription. After that first year, the price is increased to $7.99 per month. With regards to content, the basic subscription already offers a broad range of films, popular TV programs (including The Voice and Fear the Walking Dead), and even original programming, such as the Emmy Award winning The Handmaid’s Tale. To sign up for the free Hulu service, interested parties can go visit Sprint’s dedicated web page for the offer.
Apart from incorporating free Hulu subscriptions to its unlimited plans, Sprint is also teaming up with Hulu in soon granting current subscribers of Sprint Unlimited an option to upgrade with regards to Hulu’s sports and news focused live TV plan. Soon, unlimited customers will be able to stream the most popular sports networks and live matches from major professional leagues and even college tourneys, such as the National Basketball Association (NBA), Major League Baseball (MLB), the National Football League (NFL), National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) football, and even English Premier League (EPL) soccer games. As of this writing, Sprint has not released any details yet regarding the cost of the upgrade option.
More and more mobile operators are starting to bundle free streaming services together with their wireless plans. For instance, back in September earlier this year, another national carrier, T-Mobile, started including Netflix streaming, free of charge, to its T-Mobile One family plans. The deal also encouraged the carrier’s existing subscribers under older or promo plans to bump up to a T-Mobile One plan in order to take full advantage of the free Netflix offer. Even AT&T is doing a sort of similar scheme -- more than seven months ago, the number two biggest mobile operator in the country announced that it was giving all subscribers of its Unlimited Plus plans free access to HBO.
