In a move that could set off an aggressive pricing war among the Big Four wireless carriers, Sprint announced today that it will offer customers unlimited calling and data use for $69.99 a month.
The plan, dubbed Any Mobile, Anytime, will give Sprint customers unlimited calling to any wireless number inside or outside the Sprint network. As part of the Everything Data option, the plan will also include unlimited text, picture and video messaging, data use, GPS navigation, and Sprint TV.
“The new Any Mobile, Anytime feature should be attractive to the middle market of customers, especially families with multiple lines,” said Roger Entner, senior vice president, Research and Insights, Nielsen Telecom Practice. “These are people who are likely to be cutting the cord and regularly calling other cord cutters. This is much bigger than a calling circle. Sprint is removing barriers so that customers don’t have to worry about which wireless network the people they’re calling might use – and they don’t have to worry about any data constraints either.”
With yesterday's announcement of the Palm Pixi and with the competitively priced Palm Pre already in its line up, Sprint has certainly maneuvered itself into a position to draw some wireless subscribers away from some of its more pricey competition or at least slow the carrier's worrisome attrition rates.
