Sprint recently introduced a new unlimited wireless plan that may put the carrier in front of the competition, at least for now. The newly announced plan, which is called the Sprint $60 Unlimited Plan, promises customers unlimited calls, texting, and data for only a monthly charge of $60.00.
This latest offering by the carrier may be a game-changer, considering how affordable it is. For instance, take a look at T-Mobile's $80.00 per month unlimited plan and compare it with Sprint's newest $60 offering -- that's a full $20.00 differential in the monthly rates. This new Sprint offering will be available to both current and new subscribers starting on August 22. In order to become eligible for the $60 Unlimited Plan, customers must buy their handsets via Sprint Easy Pay, pay the full retail price, or bring their own compatible phones. Over the past decade, people have been increasingly dependent on their smartphones for all kinds of daily activities. According to CTIA - The Wireless Association, an industry trade group representing the international wireless telecoms industry, American users of wireless devices consumed more than 3 trillion megabytes of data in the year 2013. It's an impressive figure for sure, but it should be noted that a significant portion of these consumers are actually restricting their usage in order not to incur overage charges.
But with the release of Sprint's $60 Unlimited Plan, users no longer have to worry about paying additional fees for any data over-usage. The new plan also allows Sprint's customers significant cost savings, that is when compared to plans offered by other carriers. When stretched over two years, subscribers of Sprint's plan can save $480.00 against T-Mobile's $80 plan. Moreover, as of now, Verizon and AT&T are not offering plans similar to the $60 Unlimited Plan, which gives users a rather narrow field of choices. Sprint's new plan clearly provides the best advantage among the bunch, especially when costs are concerned.
The announcement of the new $60 Unlimited Plan also comes in the heels of the Sprint Family Share Pack which the carrier launched just days ago. This shared-data plan provides users twice the high-speed data at a price markedly lower than what Verizon and AT&T offer with their similarly constructed plans. And now with both newly-launched plans out, Sprint is clearly making an aggressive move to stay ahead of the competition.
The release of the $60 Unlimited Plan also fits nicely with the carrier's recent developments in its network coverage. Apart from its 4G LTE network and all-new 3G network, Sprint is also rolling out Sprint Spark, their attempt to improve the performance of video and other bandwidth-heavy applications like online games, virtual reality, and extensive cloud services. Enhanced for optimum usage, the Sprint Spark LTE service is designed to allow wireless speeds of 6 to 15 megabits per second (mbps) on average and 50 to 60 mbps on peak performance. By the end of the year, Sprint is aiming to service 100 million American users with Sprint Spark.
